Free Books from Mystic Grove

Third Saturdays at 11 AM is the Mystic Grove CUUPs craft circle and fellowship time. On September 16, 2023 we gathered to clean our closet in Gore Hall and start making Chalica kits for this year. After we organized our tubs and pruned down our book collection, we had a free book table after the service on Sunday. A third of the books found new homes! The book collection will be out again on Sunday Sept 24, 2023 after worship so pop by and see what might interest you!

The October 21, 2023 Craft Circle will be at 11 AM – 1 PM in the assembly room. We will learn how to sew simple drawstring bags so store tarot cards and other small trinkets. A $5 donation is welcome to help with craft circle supplies but nobody turned away for lack of funds while supplies last. Not a sewer? Don’t worry! We can pair you with a sewing machine buddy to help you make your bag!

Sept 30 Herb Class — Basil

Thanks to those who made it last week for herb class!

For those who did not make it to class but want to play along at home, we made the trikatu pastilles on page 43 for black pepper. And fire cider from page 56 for cayenne.

Our text is “The Alchemy of Herbs” by Rosalee de la Forêt.

Session 7 notes are posted at

https://sites.google.com/view/mg-exploring-herbs/

While we did not use fresh horseradish for the fire cider, Clemons Produce carries grated in vinegar in jars and that worked well.

The fire cider needs to sit for 3 weeks before straining, so keep that in mind if you plan to make that.

The pastilles get rolled in powdered herbs and I still have some powdered licorice root and powdered orange peel if anyone wants to try those out.

Next month we explore basil on September 30, 2023 at 11 AM in Gore Hall.  If you happen to be at the First Unitarian campus garden, you can check out the herb bed near the wooden “gate” structure and see all the bees enjoying our basil.

Class is “drop in” friendly at $5 per class or you can pay for the remainder of the series.
