Black Cat Open Mic August 2023 back with a BANG! See you next month-Sept. 8

“Hot August night, and the leaves hanging down, And the grass on the ground smellin’ sweet. It’s the Black Cat Café, with those fantastic sounds Rolling down East Robinson Street…”

We had a great August Black Cat on Friday the 11th! The attendance might have been a bit light, which is no big surprise in August, but the quality was super. Performers included:

  • Cindy M. on 6 string Martin guitar, with a lovely selection of songs taking us back to Woodstock.
  • Steve B. on 12 string RainSong carbon fiber guitar, with masterful renditions ranging from Simon and Garfunkel to Pinball Wizard.
  • The Buzzards (Brad T., Mike B., and Fred S.) on 6 string, 6 string, and banjo respectively, with selections from Stephen Foster, Scotland, and Bob Dylan.
  • Barry B on 6 string Resonator guitar, taking us back to the days of Robert Johnson and other fantastic blues artists via Barry’s own talented finger picking and slide work.
  • Phil S. on 6 string nylon classic guitar with a variety of original and cover songs done in his own special style combining Classic and Caribbean influences.
  • Mike B. on 6 string guitar, with a smooth, melodic rendition of his own work and some cover songs.
  • Chip D. on 6 string Martin guitar, covers of songs from back when he and Toni were just starting out together.

Huge thanks to everyone who helped with the set up and break down, especially Barbara H. who showed up extra early to start getting all the furnishings in place, and to Phil S. for running the sound board while Chip was performing. Thanks to Janet S. who brought some of the most delicious cupcakes you can even possibly imagine arranged in the shape of a Black Cat. And of course, huge thanks to Our Ladies Of Sustenance Lesley H., Toni D., Barbara H., and Mary M. who kept the food and beverages available so that the Evil Demons of Hunger and Thirst are kept well at bay during Black Cat.

So, I just gotta say, in all honesty, whoever missed this Black Cat missed some REALLY GOOD MUSIC! But, here’s the good news, The Cat will be back on September8, 2023! So, start making plans to be there.

Y’all be careful, stay safe, and See Ya At Tha Cat!

~Chip D.

Cindy performs first.
